Oklahoma State wrestler Wyatt Hendrickson salutes and embraced the US president after a shocking, upset victory at the NCAA Championship.
The new heavyweight champion pulled away from what was called the biggest upset in college wrestling history when he defeated Minnesota's Gable Steveson, the national champion in Minnesota. Not only is Steveson a well-known and internationally renowned athlete at just 24 years old, but he is also an Olympic gold medalist and a former WWE wrestler. Hendrickson's upset was even more monumental when considering Steveson's 70-game winning streak.
President Donald Trump, along with other politicians like Senator Marco Wayne Marin (R-Okla), had the front row seat to watch Hendrickson win a spectacular upset with a takedown in just 23 seconds into the game. “What a god!” cried announcer Daniel Cormier.
Hendrickson then stood up, pointed at President Trump, and salute him.

Hendrickson immediately walked to Trump and waved. The two hugged the president before he said anything to the wrestler's ears.

“He said he was very proud of me,” replied Hendrickson. “That's my commander. I'm very proud of it. He came here to support his army. I did a show for him and won that national title.”

At a post-game press conference, Hendrickson thanked his family and said, “I wanted to thank my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, for blessing me.
“In that last shot, I was on that leg and there was a little extra push behind me to get that takedown. I don't think it was a coincidence,” Hendrickson continued. ASAP Sports.
The Oklahoma athlete then spoke about his age when he recalled his church service earlier that week.
“I was listening to the sermon. [The pastor] We were talking about David and Goliath. And David had a victory vision before he stepped into the mat,” recalled Hendrickson. He chased Goliath and everyone said, “I can't do this,” but he had the heart of a champion and he had a vision of victory. Hendrickson is the second-center EU in the US Air Force and thinks he is lucky to be able to continue wrestling before returning to his role in the military.
“I've always been super patriotic and have a heart to serve,” Hendrickson said. Fox News.
