Brock Lesnar’s Surprise Return at SummerSlam 2025
Wrestling fans were in for a shock on Sunday night when Brock Lesnar’s entrance music played at MetLife Stadium, just after John Cena lost the WWE Championship to Cody Rhodes. It was a nostalgic moment; after all, Cena received a standing ovation during his last SummerSlam appearance while Lesnar’s music hadn’t been heard for two years.
As Lesnar and Cena faced off in the ring, the anticipation was palpable. Then, without hesitation, Lesnar landed his signature F5, leaving the audience buzzing.
The crowd’s reaction was explosive. Social media lit up with excitement, and it felt like a rekindling of one of WWE’s legendary rivalries. But, interestingly, Lesnar’s return wasn’t met with unanimous enthusiasm. Many fans expressed their disappointment, especially given that Lesnar’s absence stemmed from being mentioned in a sex trafficking lawsuit involving Vince McMahon (he isn’t a defendant). Former WWE employee Janelle Grant accused McMahon of attempting to coerce her into a sexual situation with Lesnar as part of efforts to influence her to re-sign with the company.
Reportedly, this lawsuit claims that WWE profited from “commercial sex act ventures” orchestrated by McMahon, with Grant portrayed as a “sexual item.” So, it’s no wonder that when Lesnar returned, numerous fans felt anger and confusion.
There was also noticeable frustration regarding the lack of a typical post-show press conference after SummerSlam. Instead, Paul “Triple H” Levesque and other wrestlers showed up on the WWE Post Show, leaving some fans feeling unsettled by the absence of usual commentary.
To add to the dynamic, comments erupted online, questioning the ethics of allowing Lesnar back in the spotlight. One user remarked, “Is that rapist allowed back to WWE?” while another pointed out the contradictions surrounding the lawsuit. Conversations around this event indicate stronger divisions among the fanbase. Some staunchly defended Lesnar while others couldn’t overlook the serious allegations tied to his return.
Wrestling, much like life, can be filled with ambiguity, and it seems that this latest incident is no exception. Fans are left to grapple with their reactions and, perhaps, soul-search about the values they want to support in the entertainment they love.
