WWE star CM Punk shreds Bears owners during Netflix broadcast

CM Punk dropped a pipe bomb on the Bears.

The WWE superstar and Chicago native stripped his ownership of his hometown team during Netflix's pregame broadcast of the Chiefs' 29-10 victory over the Steelers on Christmas Day.

The show's hosts, Laura Rutledge and twins Devin McCourty and Jason McCourty, only laughed while Punk (real name Phil Brooks) went on a rant, but the NFL never appreciated it. There wasn't.

“I told you nothing will change until the McCaskeys sell the team.” punk said.

“We’re streaming it live on Netflix,” Devin said with a laugh.

Punk continued: “We're live on Netflix, but I don't care. I've been there. Oh, Lovie Smith is going to change the Bears. Oh man. [Mitchell] Trubisky is going to change things for the Bears. Then trade up and lose [Patrick] Mahomes. ”

Jason then went on to point out that Punk is a great storyteller, especially noting that the Bears famously replaced Mahomes with Trubisky in the league-defining move in the 2017 NFL Draft. It seems like he realized it.

“We're going to walk off the set and let you rant,” Devin said.

Punk responded, “Mahomes right now, no, he's going to be with the Bears, too bad.”

The Bears are an easy punching bag right now with No. 1 pick Caleb Williams and the team searching for yet another coach.

Some aren't sure Williams has a future, and the 4-11 Bears, who were eliminated from the playoffs, have now gone 38 years without a championship.

Prolonged failures brought the McCaskey family into the spotlight, with 101-year-old Virginia Halas McCaskey becoming principal owner and George H. McCaskey as chairman.

Losing franchises tend to be held back by poor ownership, and Punke and others seem to believe the McCaskey family is fully responsible.

“I'm a Chicago sports fan.” punk said. “And, ladies and gentlemen, it won’t go any lower than that right now.”

Barstool's Dan “Big Cat” Katz, known as a Bears superfan, praised Punks' comments.

“Thank you @CMPunk” he tweeted along with a clip of the rant..

The NFL certainly didn't appreciate Punk, who was appearing as part of a Netflix tie-in that will be home to WWE's “Monday Night Raw” starting Jan. 6.

Sports leagues don't want their owners eviscerated on a national platform, so those watching the show watched as Punk called on the owners to move on.

If the Bears had drafted Mahomes, Chicago's sentiment would certainly have been different. Mahomes has led the Chiefs to three Super Bowls and secured the AFC's No. 1 seed as they seek their first three-peat in the NFL.
