WWE Star Miz Set for American Century Championship
WWE superstar Miz will participate in the esteemed American Century Championship Celebrity Golf Tournament this year, joining a roster of 36 competitors.
The tournament will kick off with practice rounds from July 9 to 13 at the Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course, which sits on the California-Nevada border.
Mike Mizanin, known as Miz, shared with Fox News Digital that he’s aiming for a better performance this time around, especially after placing low in last year’s event.
“I’m really focused on doing well at ACC. I even launched a golf YouTube channel called ‘Miz Golf’. I’ve been getting top-notch training,” he mentioned. “My understanding of the game has improved a lot—I know what to do now. It’s about applying those lessons and connecting with others.” He added, “I feel quite confident and ready. My goal is to not just lag behind, but to be somewhere in the middle of the pack this year, maybe even beat Charles Barkley.”
The celebrity golf field includes notable figures like Stephen Curry, Tony Romo, Colin Jost, and more, making it an exciting mix for fans and participants alike.
Miz admitted much of his pressure comes from the large audience and cameras. “When I play golf casually, it’s usually just me, but here, it’s a different ballgame. Thousands are watching, and when they call your name, it’s like being Tiger Woods for a moment,” he explained. “It’s an adrenaline rush, and you start to feel the nerves kick in.”
Last year, Charles Barkley was among the competitors but finished in 58th place. Miz recalled the thrill of playing alongside him, with friends nudging him, saying, “At least you can beat Charles, right?” Miz responded, “Well, it’s not that simple. He’s trained and his swing—wow. I watched him and thought, ‘This guy means business.’ I was more motivated than intimidated.”
Miz is genuinely looking forward to the tournament, stating that Edgewood Tahoe is among his top five favorite courses. The event itself plays a role in giving back, as it raises funds for various local and national charities. The format is a 54-hole Stableford, meaning golfers gain points based on their performance on each hole—whoever collects the most points wins.
Last year’s champion was former tennis star Mardy Fish, with Stephen Curry clinching victory in 2023. Curry is expected to return for this year’s competition.
