It may be during spring training, but long home runs are always fun to admire.

Daniel Vogelbach did just that when he absolutely nuked American League Cy Young Award winner Gerrit Cole.

In Cole’s first start of spring training, he played under right field against the Toronto Blue Jays, and Vogelbach, the No. 4 batter Cole faced, got the most out of Cole.

With the count 2-1, the big left-hander hit a shot from the New York Yankees ace that sailed wide over the right-field fence, giving the Blue Jays a 2-0 lead in the first inning. However, the Yanks had the last laugh with an 8-4 victory.

Vogelbach dropped his bat with some swagger, admired the bomb, and did a nice slow jog after getting out of the batter’s box.

Vogelbach took his time trotting around the bases, which Cole carried out personally.

“Yeah, what day is it? Is it still February? March 1st? Yeah, he enjoyed that home run,” Cole said after his outing.

“I don’t forget many things.”

At 6 feet tall and 270 pounds, Vogelbach isn’t the quickest. His sprint speed ranks in the bottom 2% of majors, and only nine players last year were slower than Vogelbach, known on social media as Danny Burgers.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone added that Cole “doesn’t seem to like it.”

There’s no love lost between the Yanks and Blue Jays. Aaron Judge sparked controversy last season when he appeared to look into his own dugout just before hitting a home run against the Jays, sparking talk of sign stealing.

The next night, coaches from both sides got into a war of words, with Blue Jays manager John Schneider telling someone he called “Fat Boy” to “shut up.”

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. called the Yankees “the easiest team to play against” in 2022 and said he would never play them. The Yankees won the division title that year at home in Toronto.

Blue Jays pitcher Alec Manoah also called Cole the “biggest cheater” in baseball in 2022, citing his use of sticky substances.

Cole won the Cy Young Award after the league cracked down on sticky behavior, but Manoa was briefly demoted to the minor leagues last year due to struggles.

The two have previously exchanged words on the field, and Manoah challenged Cole to meet face-to-face on the field.

Vogelbach has yet to play in a regular season game with the Blue Jays, but he appears to be taking notes from some of his new teammates.

He also spent some time with the Yankees’ in-city rival, the Mets, so he already has a taste for hatred for the Yankees.
