Yankees defeat Mets in their first Subway Series game featuring Juan Soto

Juan Soto had a feeling it would be a crowded night at Yankee Stadium on Friday, maybe 50,000 fans, but it turned out to be about 42,700, with a score that mattered more: Yankees 6, Mets 2.

Despite the deafening boos upon his return to the Bronx, Soto managed to walk three times, contributing to the Yankees’ success.

Cody Bellinger and Paul Goldschmidt played key roles for the Yankees, especially since Soto, who had opted for the Mets’ $765 million offer over the Yankees’ $760 million, was in the opposing lineup. Together, they racked up five hits, three runs, and two RBIs.

As for Aaron Judge, he continued to shine, boasting a 2-for-2 performance that brought his average to .414, alongside two runs.

Soto saw a total of 29 pitches over five at-bats and reached base three times but could only manage one run.

In the ninth inning, he stepped up to the plate again with two runners on base, but the Yankees countered by bringing in pitcher Luke Weaver.
