Yankees face mixed consequences of possible MLB changes.

Tampa – Yankees in a Shaky Position

These days, the Yankees have become a bit of a concern as they struggle to find their way back to the top of the AL East.

On Sunday, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred brought up the possibility of expansion and restructuring, which raises some intriguing ideas. Imagine the Yankees possibly playing in a new division alongside teams like the Red Sox, Mets, and Phillies!

“It’ll be a heavyweight division,” laughed manager Aaron Boone on Tuesday. “I’m not sure, it feels like we still have a long way to go.”

Such a competitive landscape could mean shorter travel schedules, which might ease some of the physical toll on players. It sounds like a win-win, really.

“If there’s a way to cut down on travel, I’d definitely be in favor of it,” Luke Weaver mentioned. It seems the players are on board with the idea if it benefits them.

Meanwhile, more injury worries have surfaced for Jonathan Roashga, who is nearing a return from the injured list. Boone noted that Roashga was feeling discomfort in his elbow and triceps area, prompting him to get an MRI for a closer look.

Roashga’s career so far has been marred by unfortunate injuries, limiting his presence on the field. “He had a true rollercoaster season in that regard,” Boone commented, highlighting the ups and downs Roashga has faced.

In a separate incident, Brent Headrick landed on the 15-day IL after suffering an issue in his left forearm from a comebacker during last week’s game. While the tests returned negative, Boone indicated that the reliever is still not at his best.

Headrick realized he needed time off shortly before his first pitch, a clear sign that an IL stint was necessary. Unfortunately, the timing left the Yankees short on fresh arms for Tuesday’s game.

On another note, Fernando Cruise (Axis Co.) made his third rehab appearance at Double-A Somerset on Tuesday. Boone said, “He’s going to be back in action soon. We’ll see how that unfolds in the coming days.”

Ryan Yarbra was set to pitch for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre but had to postpone due to rain; he’ll take the mound on Wednesday instead. The Yankees are keeping a close eye on his role, especially since they now have five healthy starters, thus allowing them to be flexible with options.

Lastly, the Yankees brought Amed Rosario back from the injured list on Tuesday after he missed at least ten days with a sprain in his SC joint. It’s good to see players returning, even as the injury concerns continue to stack up.
