They played 7¹/₂ innings in the Bronx in the rain.
But after the top of the 8th inning, it was decided enough was enough.
The game was stopped and called 56 minutes late.
“The last two innings were pretty bad,” manager Aaron Boone said after the Yankees’ 5-2 rain-shortened victory at Stadium. “There was a puddle forming. When the bases were loaded, that batting line backed it up. [Alex Verdugo] hit it [Andrew] Chaffin was captured, I know it too. [second base umpire] Alan [Porter] He came over and said, “It’s pretty bad with all the puddles and stuff.” It was tough watching the players go down the line. ”

Starting pitcher Nestor Cortez said he felt every ball was pretty wet.
He had to keep rubbing it. Coach Juan Soto thought some players were wary of getting injured.
“It was terrible. It was really tough,” the Yankees outfielder said. “I felt like everyone on the field was more worried about the injury than the game. It was a really tough field today.”
DJ LeMahieu was available to perform Saturday and Sunday. But it’s unclear whether Boone will be ready to begin another rehabilitation mission this week.
He has been out since mid-March with a nondisplaced fracture in his right foot.
Coach Boone said Gerrit Cole went well through Saturday’s first bullpen session and will return to the mound this week.
The 33-year-old ace is out with nerve inflammation and edema in his right-handed pitching elbow.
Anthony Rizzo was given time off for his game against Tigers left-handed ace Tarik Skubal. Rizzo finished the game well, recording a home run and three RBIs.
“The last few days off, we’ve kind of been planning for this day to end,” Boone said. “I wanted to focus on that.”
Boone said there was consideration for Rizzo to play Sunday as his bat started to heat up, but both sides agreed it was best to stick to the original plan. Oswaldo Cabrera makes his first career start at first base.
