Yemen’s Houthis claim responsibility for cruise missile strike in Israel

Yemen’s Houthis were responsible for launching a cruise missile that landed in open territory in Israel, marking the first time a projectile launched by the Iranian-backed group has hit the Jewish state.

The Israel Defense Forces announced Tuesday that it had tracked a “suspicious aerial target,” but later confirmed it was a cruise missile, The Times of Israel reported (https://www.timesofisrael.com/in-first-idf-confirms-houthi-cruise-missile-hit-open-area-near-eilat-on-monday/).

The Israel Defense Forces claimed the missile landed in an “open area north of Eilat.”

No damage or injuries were reported.

The Israel Defense Forces say they are currently investigating the attack, according to the Times of Israel.

The Houthis also targeted fuel tankers in the Red Sea with naval missiles, spokesman Yahya Salih said in a prerecorded message on Tuesday.

On March 15th and 17th, the group targeted a liquefied petroleum gas tanker heading from Saudi Arabia to Singapore.

However, both attacks missed their intended targets and caused no damage or injury.
