Could bowl season be back?! And I’m talking about REAL bowl season!
I think we can all agree that college athletes need their fair share of the pie, especially when it comes to college football. And for the most part, I think we enjoy the excitement of the transfer portal. But in the process, bowl seasons are completely ruined by the incredible opt-outs that have been happening lately, diminishing the value of bowl games without star players.
As a fan, that’s terrible, but from a player’s perspective, it’s completely understandable. If you had the chance to choose between risking an injury or millions of dollars just waiting to go to the NFL (or make money on the portal) without taking any risks, you too would have opted out. You will, and we all will. But the problem is, it ruins our bowl season experience. But thankfully, opting out of bowl games may soon be a thing of the past, and players may still be able to receive the compensation they deserve, said bowl season director Nick Carparelli.
Carparelli told Yahoo Sports, “The NIL will soon be ‘in-house’ and require players to enter into binding compensation agreements with schools that require them to play in bowls and CFP games, eliminating opt-outs or We hope to see a significant reduction.”
