Great American State Fair Music Lineup Adjustments
Freedom 250 recently revealed the music lineup for the upcoming Great American State Fair, scheduled from June 25 to July 10 on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. However, shortly after the announcement, two artists, Young MC and Morris Day, took to social media to clarify that they would not be participating, despite being listed in the initial lineup.
Young MC issued a statement saying, “I told my agent that I would not be performing at the Freedom 250 event.” He expressed concern over the political nature of the event, mentioning, “The artists were not informed of any political involvement in this event.” He also noted the discrepancy between the organizers’ portrayal of the event as nonpartisan and SPIN magazine’s description of it as pro-Trump. He hopes for the opportunity to perform at a less politically charged event in D.C. soon.
Additionally, he recorded a video message, recalling that when approached about the event by a representative, he was puzzled, asking, “Trump Freedom Show? What are you talking about?” He further remembered discussing the show with his agent about three months prior. At that time, he was not told about any political affiliations, which led him to decline participation.
Morris Day, who is well known as the lead singer of The Time, also confirmed in his Instagram post that “Morris Day & The Time will not be performing at the Great American State Fair,” adding simply, “Not for me.”
A press release from Freedom 250 originally highlighted performances from various artists including Vanilla Ice, Martina McBride, and others. Following the withdrawal of Young MC and Morris Day, The Daily Caller reached out to Freedom 250 for clarification on the booking process. Rachel Reisner, a spokesperson for Freedom 250, emphasized that the organization is a nonpartisan entity aiming to unite Americans for the celebration of the nation’s 250th anniversary. She explained, “Freedom 250 focuses on our signature celebrations and events that celebrate our history and involve all Americans.”
