Youngkin launches investigation into Fairfax County school over claims of staff-involved abortions

Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin has instructed state police to launch a criminal investigation into claims that staff at Fairfax County schools facilitated abortions for students without parental consent, potentially using public funds.

Allegations surfaced regarding the actions of officials at Centerville High School, who reportedly helped coordinate and finance an abortion for a 17-year-old student back in 2021, all while keeping her parents uninformed.

The report indicates that school administrators were aware of the abortions occurring, yet staff struggled with these issues and may have misused school resources.

“I’m very concerned about these allegations that public school officials might have organized abortions for minors without parental knowledge, as well as the potential misuse of taxpayer money,” Youngkin stated on Wednesday.

He added, “I am directing the Virginia Police Investigation Bureau to conduct a comprehensive investigation into this matter promptly.”

In response, the Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) announced that they are now investigating the issues raised at Centerville High School.

According to FCPS, “There are significant questions regarding these allegations that need addressing. The situations described in these 2021 assertions will not be tolerated within Fairfax County Public Schools.”

The district emphasized they are already taking steps to bring in external investigators to clarify the details surrounding the claims. “We all deserve to know what truly occurred. Taking appropriate action is essential,” they stated.

Earlier this month, when asked about any instances of arranged abortions among students, the district told WJLA that they were not aware of any such cases.

The policy of FCPS signifies that while every effort will be made to support and encourage students, concerns about potential pregnancies should involve discussions with parents or guardians. However, it’s unclear whether this has been communicated effectively by school employees.

The Prolife Group has condemned the reported covert arrangements at Centerville High School. One individual remarked on social media about the situation, stating, “Facilitating a student abortion in secrecy, without informing parents, is not healthcare—it’s the exploitation of children funded by the state.”
