On Sunday, President Zelenskyy spoke at the “Year of Ukraine 2024” forum in Kiev and said the number was much lower than predicted by Russian President Vladimir Putin’s government.

“31,000 Ukrainian servicemen died in this war. Not 300,000, not 150,000, not what Putin and his gang of deceivers are lying about. But nevertheless, each of these losses is for us It’s a huge sacrifice,” Zelenskiy said.

He went on to say that he would not say how many soldiers were injured or reported missing. It also claimed that “tens of thousands of civilians” had died in occupied Ukrainian territory, but added that the exact number would not be known until the end of the conflict.

“We don’t know how many civilians they killed. We don’t,” he said.

This is the first time since Russia began all-out war on February 24th.thIn 2022, Kiev revealed the exact number of losses.

According to the latest data from the Ministry of Defense, the death toll announced in January 2023 was just over 6,000. However, reports from US and British authorities put the death toll much higher.

A declassified US intelligence report released in mid-December 2023 states that 315,000 Russian soldiers are believed to have been killed or wounded in Ukraine. According to the report, if this figure is accurate, it would represent 87% of the approximately 360,000 troops Russia had before the war.

Russian independent news source mediazona said that approximately 75,000 Russian men lost their lives in combat in 2022 and 2023.
