New York City Mayor-elect Appeals for Donations

Mayor-elect Zoran Mamdani of New York City is reaching out to his supporters for financial contributions ahead of his inauguration.

“We’re hoping that soon, money won’t be an issue, but for now, please visit transition2025.com and contribute however you can,” Mamdani stated in a video posted on Tuesday.

He clarified that transition efforts do not qualify for public matching funds, which are available during campaigns. “Right now, we don’t get any of that public support—no 8-to-1 match. It’s really up to us to raise the funds. Campaigns often rely on big donors, but that’s not our approach,” he added.

Mamdani, who identifies as a democratic socialist, indicated that they need to raise $4 million to ensure they can start effecting policies by January 1. He mentioned that they’ve already gathered over $1 million, averaging about $77.65 from 12,707 donors.

In the video, Mamdani explained the challenges ahead: “We need to examine the 50,000 resumes we’ll receive, and we have to keep our fantastic teams paid. Plus, we need to plan not just for the inauguration, but for rolling out our policies as well.” This phase is crucial, he emphasized, to avoid delays in delivering on their promises.

Earlier this month, the Congressman and Democratic mayoral candidate triumphed over former Governor Andrew Cuomo and Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa in the mayoral election, securing his position to lead the city.
