Two young children who were the subject of a massive search by New Hampshire State Police were found safe in a restaurant parking lot Friday, and their father was taken into police custody, authorities said.
Police had earlier issued an Amber Alert after the children’s mother was found dead in a Berlin apartment on Thursday night.

The children were found about 270 miles away in a parking lot in Keene, but it is still unclear what happened, said Michael Garrity, a spokesman for the New Hampshire attorney general.

“I can confirm that the children are safe and that he is with police in Keene, New Hampshire,” Garrity said. “No further details yet.”
Authorities issued an Amber Alert shortly after 4 a.m. for the abduction of 4-year-old Erowyn Dueren and 1-year-old Vaelin Dueren from Berlin.
Authorities said the father, Dusten Mark Duren, 37, was potentially armed and dangerous and should not be approached. He was driving a white 2017 Subaru Impreza with Veteran license plates and was last seen in the capital city of Concord. He is said to have been approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighed 180 pounds.
Police were first called to the Main Street apartment around 10:30 p.m. Thursday, where they discovered the body of the children’s mother, Caitlin Nafziger, 31, Attorney General John Formella said. Ta.

Formella said in a release that an autopsy is scheduled for Friday afternoon and the death is considered suspicious. Authorities said the children were last seen with their father in Berlin around 8 p.m. Thursday before being found in Keene.
