20 shot, four fatally, in bloody Chicago weekend ahead of DNC

At least 20 people were shot during weekend riots in Chicago, including one man who was shot and killed just blocks from the Democratic National Convention.

Shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday, a 21-year-old man was killed in a crash with a black truck in the 500 block of Damen Avenue, less than a mile north of the United Center, where the Democratic National Convention will be held on Monday and likely nominate Kamala Harris for the Democratic presidential nomination.

The truck driver reportedly fired his gun at the 21-year-old man, striking him in the head, cheek and shoulder, before fleeing the scene.

He was in critical condition and According to ABC 7 Chicagono suspects have been identified.

At the same time across town on the Lower West Side, a man and woman were found shot to death in a car.

Police responded to the gunfire, encountered a group of armed suspects near a vehicle and opened fire on them, one of whom was shot and later died at a hospital.

Just before 5 a.m. Saturday, a man and woman were standing outside when gunfire rang out and they were both shot.

A 53-year-old man was shot in the abdomen and later died, a 41-year-old woman was shot in the ankle, and a third victim, a 33-year-old, was shot in the leg.

In another shooting in the southwest on Saturday, a 30-year-old man was approached, shot in the neck and back and fled, later dying.
