A 21-year-old man who had been missing for weeks was found dead at the bottom of a 50-foot-deep well outside a Virginia church after parishioners complained of a foul odor, police said.
Emergency workers recovered the body of Graham Norris Horne on Monday from a well at St. Stephen Luther Church in rural Mecklenburg County.
The body was transported to the Virginia Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, where fingerprints confirmed it was Horne's. According to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.
Horn was last seen on Aug. 15 while traveling with a North Carolina-based faith group. Met by Love MinistriesThe vehicle had stopped to get gas at Simmons Truck Stop in Bracy, WRAL reported.
Police said Horner had been in an argument with his passenger and left the vehicle alone and in an angry state. Horner did not have a cell phone or any local connections.
The gas station is just about six miles from the church where he was found.
When contacted by The Post, a man who answered the phone at Met By Love Ministries declined to comment before hanging up.
“Our hearts and prayers are with the affected family and friends during this difficult time,” said South Hill Fire Rescue, who helped pull Horn's body from the well. It said in a statement“We also ask that you keep our emergency responders in your thoughts and prayers.”
The sheriff's office said the investigation is ongoing.
