CBP officials attribute the decline in January encounters to historical seasonal trends and increased enforcement activity in Mexico. “Consistent with historical trends and increased enforcement, preliminary numbers show that the number of port-to-entry encounters at the Southwest border decreased by more than 50% during the first two weeks of January,” CBP officials said. Stated. said “The men and women of CBP continue to enforce our nation’s immigration laws at and between ports of entry and continue to work with our Mexican partners along our common border.”
