Gaza City: Recent Developments
At least 80 Palestinians have reportedly lost their lives, with many more injured due to Israeli airstrikes throughout Gaza, according to local medical sources.
The Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis stated that 54 individuals, including women and children, were confirmed dead following strikes in the southern part of the city, as discussed in a press conference on Thursday.
Gaza European Hospital, the only facility providing ongoing care for cancer patients in the region, was reported inactive due to the recent Israeli attacks, as stated by health officials in Gaza.
Authorities mentioned during a press briefing that the Israeli strikes have inflicted considerable damage on the area’s infrastructure, affecting sewer lines and destroying roads that lead to hospitals.
Meanwhile, additional reports indicated that 26 individuals lost their lives due to airstrikes in Gaza City and northern regions.
These airstrikes occurred following a warning from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who stated that Israeli forces would soon conduct a full-scale operation in Gaza to counter Hamas.
Israeli military activities resumed on March 18, effectively ending a two-month ceasefire.
Since that time, officials in Gaza have reported a tragic toll of 2,876 Palestinians killed and over 7,800 injured.
As of Thursday, the total number of deaths in Palestine since hostilities began on October 7, 2023, has reached 53,010, according to officials.
Mahmoud Basics, a civil defense spokesman in Gaza, spoke to Xinhua, revealing that many people have been forced to sleep in the streets due to the threats of strikes at schools and shelters meant for displaced individuals. This situation hinders emergency teams and further damages civil defense infrastructure.
Since the onset of recent conflict in October 2023, over 53,000 Palestinians have reportedly been killed in a series of harsh attacks by Israeli forces.
A U.S.-backed humanitarian organization plans to initiate an aid distribution program in Gaza by the end of May. However, they have requested that Israel resume deliveries to the United Nations and other organizations.
Humanitarian assistance has been absent in Gaza since March 2, and global hunger monitors are warning that around 500,000 individuals are at risk of hunger in the region.
