Emerging Memo Suggests DC Judges Bias Against Trump
A recent memo has surfaced, suggesting that certain federal judges in Washington, including James Boasberg, harbor a bias against former President Donald Trump—a sentiment echoed by some Americans.
The memo, linked to a Judicial Conference meeting that took place on March 11, 2025, highlights that these conferences are conducted twice yearly to address administrative and policy matters relevant to the federal court system and to make legislative recommendations.
During this particular meeting, Judge Boasberg reportedly expressed to Secretary Roberts, chairman of the Judicial Council, worries regarding the administration potentially disregarding federal court rulings, which he felt could lead to a constitutional crisis.
Roberts, in response, conveyed a hope that such events would not materialize, mentioning a recent positive interaction with Trump that was “civic and respectful.”
However, the Federalists noted that Trump is not the only president facing legal battles; he is, in fact, a defendant in numerous cases, especially in the DC District Court.
This raises questions about the judges’ discussions. It seems they weren’t merely talking about general rates of judicial concerns, but were specifically evaluating litigants appearing before them—indicating their apprehensions towards the Trump administration, suggesting a potential bias against it.
Judge Boasberg’s remarks appear to indicate a lack of neutrality. The Trump administration has, after all, complied with previous court orders. This implies a disconnect from the usual assumptions of judicial impartiality, particularly when it comes to cases involving the current president in D.C.
As the Federalists observed, just days later, Boasberg mandated that the Trump administration halt deportations to El Salvador. Further, he ruled that individuals who had been deported must be given a chance to challenge that deportation legally.
In contrast, later in June, the Supreme Court granted Trump a significant victory by limiting his ability to halt his policies, continuing to frame the judge’s role as contentious.
Trump remarked, “I embarked on a historic mission, yet in recent months, I’ve witnessed radical left judges trying to undermine my authority, which reflects the choices made by voters in record numbers.”
He added that “these judges sought to influence national policy beyond their cases.”
