‘b —-‘s son: Newsom lashes out at Trump over ICE actions
California gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton recently shared his thoughts on Fox & Friends, where he criticized Governor Gavin Newsom’s possible 2028 presidential ambitions and commented on President Donald Trump’s aggressive actions regarding immigration enforcement.
After Trump deployed California State Guard troops for federal support in response to protests against ICE in Los Angeles, Newsom spoke to reporters. He urged Trump to withdraw the National Guard, labeling the move as a significant waste of resources.
The governor attempted to challenge the Trump administration legally over the National Guard’s deployment, condemning them as “chaos agents” who harmed California communities.
In a press conference, Newsom referred to Trump derogatorily, and when asked about the comment, he remained firm. “I don’t think they understand other types of languages,” he stated, standing by his stance against what he termed cruelty from the Trump administration.
Newsom criticized Trump for using National Guard troops to further a theatrical display of strength, asserting it was an inappropriate way to handle domestic issues. He expressed concern over the financial drain, claiming that millions were being misallocated while the focus should be on communities and families.
He pointed out that deploying troops domestically instead of overseas raised questions about Trump’s priorities. In his first term, Trump allegedly didn’t send military personnel abroad but instead chose to keep them within the U.S. for such operations.
Newsom also emphasized the potential for similar tactics to spread across the nation, warning that this wasn’t merely a California issue, but rather indicative of broader trends in U.S. governance. He lamented the cruelty of these actions, aimed at instilling fear rather than fostering community safety.
He insisted that he wanted to regain control of the National Guard, aiming to redirect their efforts to managing wildfires and community safety issues rather than what he viewed as political theatrics.
In response to Newsom’s comments, White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson remarked that the governor was on the “wrong side of history.” She argued that Newsom’s policies negatively impacted families and suggested that Trump’s immigration enforcement had the backing of many voters, including some Democrats, due to its focus on removing dangerous criminals from communities.
