A family friend has shared details about the double murder of Robin Kay, an “American Idol” executive, and her husband, Thomas DeLuca, at their multi-million-dollar home in Los Angeles. According to the friend, the couple had moved to the neighborhood under the impression it was safer. However, a break-in occurred a few weeks prior to their deaths, which has raised suspicions about robbery.
Friends revealed that Kay and DeLuca, both 70, had heightened their security measures after a recent intrusion. The couple had installed spikes on their fence and upgraded their video surveillance system. “They already had video surveillance, and they just added more,” the friend recounted, preferring to remain anonymous.
During the first break-in, which happened while they were sleeping, their dogs alerted them. “That’s how they woke up,” the friend noted. They mentioned that the intruders likely broke a glass, causing the dogs to bark and scare them off.
Despite enhancing their security, Kay, described as one of the nicest people, had expressed to friends that she didn’t think the suspect would return, according to the friend.
Before the tragic incident, Kay had contacted a private security firm expressing concerns about safety in her neighborhood. Chris Herzog, owner of a Beverly Hills bodyguard agency, confirmed that she felt threatened in the days leading up to the event.
Unfortunately, the couple never did hire a security service. They were found dead in their home on Monday after police conducted wellness checks. The suspect, 22-year-old Raymond Boudarian, was arrested the following day.
Though it remains unclear whether Boudarian was involved in the earlier break-in, police suspect he intended to rob the house. Notably, the property had recently sold for approximately $4.5 million while the couple was away.
Reports indicate that Boudarian opened fire when Kay and DeLuca returned home. They were discovered four days later with gunshot wounds in separate rooms—Kay in the pantry and DeLuca in the bathroom.
Investigators do not believe Boudarian was acquainted with the victims.
