Indeed, sometimes it feels like a dog is a person’s best friend!

With generative AI becoming a norm, many are exploring tools for tasks ranging from grocery list creation to love poetry writing.

Recently, pet owners on TikTok have found themselves turning their dogs into human representations using ChatGPT.

Interestingly, there’s an odd trend among pet enthusiasts that goes beyond just this.

A recent survey from Metlife polled 1,000 individuals about how their pets influence their lives, revealing just how invested people are in their furry companions.

Among those who recognized this personification trend, 31% confessed to pursuing human equivalents of their pets.

Interestingly, the numbers varied: about 34% of millennials reported this, while only 24% of Zoomers seemed to agree.

Yet, not every pet owner is ready for romance, as nearly 40% of respondents viewed a pet-human transformation as a “walking red flag.”

Despite the challenges posed by some of their pets’ behaviors, owners remain strongly attached. Experts suggest this may be a lingering effect of the COVID-19 pandemic and the time spent in quarantine.

In fact, a staggering 87% of pet owners are willing to forgo their dream apartment if it doesn’t accommodate pets.

Some fervent pet parents essentially consider themselves married to their animals.

According to a study from 2025, pets are regarded as providing emotional support similar to what friends and family offer. A notable 77% of pet owners in the survey agreed that their pets give better emotional support than some of their former human partners.

One divorce lawyer shared, “Instead of kissing my husband, I wake up and give that affection to my dog, Elsie.”

This feeling is echoed by many pet parents, reiterating that while they love their human partners, the bond with their pets often feels uniquely loyal.
