Suspect in Double Murder of “American Idol” Music Executive Appears in Court
Van Nuys, California – The 22-year-old man charged with the murders of a music executive from “American Idol” and her husband made his first court appearance on Thursday in Southern California.
Raymond Boudarian faces two counts of murder and one count of first-degree robbery. Special circumstances related to the murders have also been noted, according to Associate District Attorney Hilary Williams, who spoke outside the courthouse.
Boudarian was taken into custody on Tuesday under felony charges and is currently being held without bail following the deaths of the couple in Encino.
He was arrested at his home in the vicinity of Vanowen Street, with police reporting that the arrest was conducted without incident, as confirmed by Guy Golan of the Los Angeles Police Department.
At this stage, Boudarian has not made a statement, and authorities intend to press murder charges against him soon.
Robin Kay, who served as the music director for “American Idol” and had been involved in over 300 episodes of the show, along with her husband Thomas Deluca, was discovered dead in their home on July 14th.
Both victims were reportedly found with multiple gunshot wounds, and the LAPD indicated that this could be a case of random violence. Golan mentioned that the suspect has not been linked to the victims directly and that they are still exploring potential motives.
Boudarian was identified through surveillance footage taken from the residence, but it remains unclear how he reached the location. Investigators have yet to determine whether he drove, walked, or used a ride-sharing service to get there.
The couple was found around 2:30 PM after police responded to a welfare check at their home on White Oak Avenue, both having reached the age of 70.
