ICE Deports Two Convicted Sex Offenders

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has deported a man convicted of heinous crimes involving the sexual assault of his 12-year-old niece, as well as another immigrant who was involved with sexually abusing a minor. This news came out on Thursday.

Pedro Trejo Reyes, a 67-year-old previously deported from Mexico, was sent back after being convicted in 2009 for repeatedly assaulting his young niece in Texas. Sadly, this abuse led to a pregnancy that ended in a miscarriage. Court documents indicate that DNA testing confirmed Reyes as the father with over 99% accuracy.

What’s even more disturbing? Reyes reportedly threatened his niece, warning her about “disappearing” if she told anyone about the abuse.

After spending 16 years in prison, Reyes was ordered to leave the U.S. in 2011 by an immigration judge.

Tricia McLaughlin, a Homeland Security Advisor, made a strong statement regarding the deportation of such serious offenders, saying these individuals “have no path forward or a second chance in America.” She criticized media coverage and political discussions surrounding immigration, emphasizing the effectiveness of ICE in removing dangerous criminals from the country.

In a separate case in Texas, another troubling incident involved Edwin Jacobo Hernandez Mateo, an immigrant from Honduras accused of raping a child under 14 years old. It was reported that he lied about his status when he crossed into the U.S. in 2022. Details on the charges against him haven’t been fully disclosed.

Hernandez Mateo was arrested by ICE agents in Houston on June 17 and is now awaiting deportation at the Montgomery Processing Center.

Reyes originally entered the U.S. legally with a green card in 1990, though it’s not clear when his status changed. He was previously convicted of DWI in 1995.

Just recently, a Houston ICE operation apprehended 1,361 unlawful immigrants, including 35 convicted sex offenders. The White House spokesperson mentioned a notable increase in deportations, highlighting this ongoing issue in the immigration debate.
