ICE Deputy Director Addresses Growing Violence Against Officers

On Sunday, Deputy ICE Director Todd Lyons criticized the harsh language coming from “elected officials” that he believes has contributed to an uptick in violence against immigration officers.

In an interview with CBS’s “Face the Nation,” he noted that this rhetoric has intensified attacks, particularly against those opposed to President Donald Trump’s policies.

“The rhetoric, especially the significant rise from numerous elected officials, is quite troubling and seems to challenge the mission of ICE Law Enforcement,” Lyons stated. He mentioned that assaults on officers have surged by 830% compared to 2024.

Concerns of ICE Agents Regarding Family Safety Amid Rising Attacks

Lyons attributed this spike in violence to the increased visibility of ICE officers within communities, which has been part of Trump’s expanded deportation efforts. “The immigration mission is a top priority for this administration, bringing extensive scrutiny and media attention,” he remarked.

Clarifications on ICE Procedures: No Cages, Due Process Remains

Officials clarified that ICE does not limit arrests to illegal immigrants with prior criminal offenses. Many individuals without criminal records have been arrested as part of broader operations aimed at apprehending those involved in violent crimes. However, Lyons emphasized that ICE focuses on the “worst of the worst.”

ICE officers expressed their concerns about the rising violence and criticism they are facing under the current administration. General Christian Moreno shared his thoughts this weekend during an appearance on “My Views” with Lala Trump, expressing sadness over the deteriorating situation. “It’s disheartening to see how things are worsening,” he noted.

He felt compelled to speak publicly, explaining, “I had to discuss this with my family—this is what I believe, and I think it’s vital to share our story with the American people. We are doing our job enforcing the law, and while it’s unfortunate, we will keep pushing forward.” Moreno, along with officers Edgard Centeno and Chris Sandoval, elaborated on the daily challenges they face.

“We have a duty to uphold the Constitution. We enforce the law, and while we adapt to what’s happening in our country, it’s disheartening, especially seeing the division within our nation,” Centeno added.
