Border Patrol Agent Shoots Back During NYC Robbery Attempt
In a recent incident, a foreign individual, who had been released by the Biden administration, reportedly shot a Border Patrol agent during an attempted robbery in New York City. Despite being injured, the agent returned fire, hitting the suspect as he fled on a moped.
Footage from the Department of Homeland Security shows two men at a park along the Hudson River. One man dismounts from a moped and approaches a Border Patrol agent seated by the riverbank. As he gets closer, he draws a weapon and opens fire on the agent.
In the heat of the moment, the agent sought cover and exchanged fire with the suspect for about 25 seconds, managing to return fire despite sustaining injuries. Eventually, the suspect, who appeared to be hurt, made his escape on the moped.
According to DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, the suspect has been identified as Miguel Francisco Mora Nunez, a Dominican Republic citizen. He had re-entered the U.S. illegally in April 2023 and was previously apprehended by Border Patrol agents in Arizona.
A report from Customs and Border Protection indicates that Dominican nationals were part of a larger group of nearly 212,000 undocumented immigrants who crossed the southern border that month. Due to overcrowding in detention centers, the Biden administration’s catch-and-release policy led to his release into the U.S.
Secretary Noem noted that Mora Nunez had an existing warrant from Massachusetts and a history of various offenses during his time in the U.S.
DHS Deputy Director Tricia McLaughlin revealed that the suspect had a final removal order dating back to 2003, along with multiple arrests, including felonies. Still, due to current policies, individuals like him have been released.
Former President Donald Trump commended the Border Patrol agents for their bravery, calling the suspect “a monster released into the country under Joe Biden.”
Reports indicate that the agent suffered gunshot wounds to his face and forearm but has survived surgery and is listed in stable condition.
Additional sources stated that Mora Nunez had multiple arrests in New York City, where he was released without bail each time. His arrest history includes alleged assault and threats to another individual.
After sustaining injuries from the agent’s gunfire, Mora Nunez was taken to a Bronx hospital and remains in custody. The investigation concerning the robbery attempt continues, with the moped driver still at large.
