Jeff Daniels Reflects on Kamala Harris’ Loss in 2024 Presidential Race

Actor Jeff Daniels expressed his disappointment regarding Kamala Harris’ defeat in the recent presidential election, suggesting she could have governed in the spirit of Abraham Lincoln. In an interview with MSNBC’s Nicole Wallace, Daniels remarked, “I still think Kamala was a solid choice.” He emphasized that he believed she had the potential to lead effectively, much like Lincoln did during his time.

During the discussion, Daniels pointed out Lincoln’s strategy of including political rivals in his cabinet, referencing Doris Kearns Goodwin’s book on Lincoln’s political acumen. “He surrounded himself with opposition, not just sycophants,” he noted, highlighting the merit of diverse perspectives in governance.

Interestingly, Harris’ campaign featured Liz Cheney, a notable Republican who has been critical of former President Trump. Once a prominent conservative figure, Cheney served on the committee that probed the January 6th Capitol riots. If elected, Harris had pledged to bring Republicans into her administration.

Daniels, recognized for his varied roles in film and television, noted that the Republican Party seems to be deteriorating under Trump’s leadership. “It’s troubling,” he said. “What do I know? I’m just an actor, but I do sense a shift.” He talked about the long-term impacts of political movements and how they could shape America’s future.

He also touched upon the financial strain some wealthy supporters might experience under Trump’s policies, indicating that the party’s direction could lead them into the minority.

Daniels plays Ronald Reagan in the upcoming film “Reykjavik,” which centers on the 1986 summit between Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev. His recent roles also include a portrayal of the former FBI director in “The Comey Rules.”
