Trump chooses Alina Habba to continue as acting US attorney in NJ after judges turn her down for the position.

Alina Haba Continues as New Jersey’s Top Prosecutor Despite Court Ruling

Alina Haba, President Trump’s appointed U.S. attorney for New Jersey, will remain in her role despite a judge’s decision to deny her permanent appointment. In a statement, Haba highlighted her position, noting, “Donald J. Trump is the 47th President. Pam Bondy is the Attorney General. I am currently a United States lawyer for the New Jersey area.”

She emphasized her commitment to the role, saying, “I’m not putting any pressure on me. I don’t answer politics. This is a battle for justice, and I’m in everything.”

Haba’s temporary appointment was set to end soon, having served for 120 days since being put in place by Trump in March. However, she had not yet received formal approval for a permanent position.

The situation grew more complicated earlier this week when 17 federal judges from New Jersey, mostly appointed by former Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden, opposed extending Haba’s tenure, choosing instead to appoint Digily Lee Grace as the first U.S. lawyer for the state. Grace’s appointment was short-lived; she was later dismissed by Attorney General Pam Bondy.

On Thursday, officials from the Department of Justice clarified that Haba’s initial appointment was rescinded, allowing her to continue her role. They are positioning her as the first U.S. lawyer in New Jersey to take over from Grace.

There’s a lot of movement here, and to add complexity, it’s worth noting that the role awaits a proper contender should it reopen. While Haba’s fate seems uncertain, her resolute determination is unmistakable.

It’s interesting how these judicial and political changes unfold. I mean, can you imagine the tension in the air? Haba’s position, after all, isn’t just about legal procedures—it’s also about navigating the complicated waters of politics.

Meanwhile, the DOJ and New Jersey’s U.S. Attorney’s Office hadn’t responded promptly to questions regarding the situation. Haba, who has a background as Trump’s personal lawyer, faced challenges in securing a Senate confirmation hearing due to opposition from some Democratic senators. It appears that a state judge’s extension or alternative solutions are her only avenues to keep her role.

Despite the hurdles, Haba’s nomination has been met with backing from various organizations, including the National Association of Police Organizations, reflecting her support from law enforcement sectors.
