Whatley Receives Trump’s Endorsement for NC Senate Seat
Michael Whatley has secured significant backing from President Donald Trump as he prepares for the Republican primary for the North Carolina Senate seat. This comes after Sen. Tom Tillis opted not to pursue a third term, amidst challenges including diminishing vote counts and conflicts with Trump.
Trump commended Whatley’s leadership as chairman of the Republican National Committee (RNC) and urged North Carolinians to support him in his Senate campaign. “Mike will be an incredible senator for North Carolina,” Trump emphasized in a statement on True Social. He also highlighted Whatley’s past accomplishments in the presidential election, claiming, “we won in all swing states with landslides!”
Trump outlined key issues he and Whatley plan to tackle, mentioning border security, crime reduction, military support, tax cuts, and Second Amendment rights. He expressed, “I need him in Washington,” reinforcing his confidence in Whatley’s capabilities.
Although Whatley will be stepping down from his role as RNC chairman if he officially enters the race, Trump mentioned that Joe Gluters will be ready to take over that position. “There are great people who can lead the RNC, and I fully support Joe,” Trump noted.
He also recognized Whatley’s work alongside Lara Trump, who has chosen not to run for the open Senate seat. Trump described Whatley as “one of our country’s most capable executives” who has consistently performed well in North Carolina elections.
While Whatley has not formally announced his candidacy, sources have indicated to Breitbart News that he is likely to enter the race. Republican primary candidates might face former Democrat Roy Cooper, a liberal figure who has been under scrutiny from the National Republican Senate Committee.
