Trump’s Approval Ratings: A Discrepancy?

On a recent segment of Fox News, political analyst Matt Towery argued that President Donald Trump’s actual approval ratings might be significantly better than what mainstream media suggests. According to a Gallup poll released on Thursday, Trump’s approval stood at 37%, with support from independents dropping to 29%. During his appearance on “Ingraham’s Angle,” Towery pointed out the disparities between the numbers presented by polls and the reality he believes exists.

“That’s a pretty low figure,” Towery noted, emphasizing that media representations often fail to capture the true sentiment among voters. He asserted that while some polls report Trump’s approval hovering around 30%, his assessment suggests a much more favorable view for the president.

Towery also raised concerns about the potential biases affecting polling accuracy. He suggested that polls might suppress stronger approval ratings for Trump while heavily reporting lower figures instead. “Gallup has historically been reliable for gauging presidential approval, but things are different now. Trust me, Donald Trump has over 50% approval among the American public,” he asserted.

Interestingly, data from June shows Trump’s approval rating at 47.5%, surpassing former Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama at similar points in their second terms. Bush’s approval was recorded at 45.9%, and Obama’s was 47.1% during the same timeframe.

Additionally, this uptick in Trump’s approval ratings corresponds with a notable increase in consumer confidence, which rose by 12.3 points in May. This boost, fueled by positive business conditions and employment outlooks, became more pronounced following a US-China trade agreement reached on May 12.
