Couple from Arkansas dies at Devil's Den State Park while hiking with their young daughters; suspect remains at large

Murder Investigation in Devil’s Den State Park

The search for a killer who murdered a married couple at Devil’s Den State Park in Arkansas intensified on Monday. The tragic event occurred in front of the couple’s young daughters, aged 7 and 9.

Authorities responded around 2:30 PM to reports of a possible attack in the park, which has an ominous name. Upon arrival, they found that it was too late; the parents, Clinton David Brink, 43, and Kristan Amanda Brink, 41, were discovered dead.

Fortunately, the couple’s daughters were located nearby, unharmed.

Details about how and exactly when the couple was killed have not been disclosed. Reporters noted a noticeable police presence in the area around 4:30 PM but were asked to leave without receiving any information, according to reports.

It wasn’t until 8:40 PM, about six hours after the initial alert, that the Arkansas State Police announced a significant manhunt was underway. This delay drew criticism, particularly due to the challenging terrain and a lack of mobile phone service.

A spokesperson for the Arkansas State Police explained that the remote location required time for agents to survey the scene, interview witnesses, and gather accurate information before making any public announcements.

On Sunday, police updated the suspect description. They noted the suspect was last seen wearing a long-sleeved shirt rather than a tank top, with a medium build, dark pants, a red baseball cap, and sunglasses. He was also seen carrying a backpack and wearing fingerless gloves.

Witnesses reported he drove a black four-door sedan with a tape-covered license plate, believed to be a Mazda.

Shea Lewis, secretary for the Arkansas Parks Heritage and Tourism Department, stated that law enforcement presence in state parks is being increased. He emphasized that park rangers are fully commissioned law enforcement officers committed to the safety of park visitors.

Devil’s Den State Park, located in the Ozark National Forest about 30 miles south of Fayetteville, is known for its scenic attractions, including caves and sprawling woodlands.
