Authorities provided updates indicating that a fifth victim was shot and later hospitalized, currently in critical but stable condition. The alleged shooter, 27-year-old Shane Tamra, died from injuries sustained during the incident on the 33rd floor.

This building houses several notable offices, including the Blackstone Group, the NFL, and KPMG. The motive for the attack is still being scrutinized by investigators.

According to reports, Tamra, a Las Vegas native, had recently worked as a night security guard at Horseshoe Las Vegas. Mayor Eric Adams mentioned the search warrant executed at Tamra’s residence in Las Vegas, aimed at understanding how he obtained the AR-15-style rifle believed to be used in the shooting.

NYPD Officer Among the Victims

Didarul Islam, a 33-year-old officer with the NYPD, was identified as one of the casualties. An immigrant from Bangladesh, Islam had served in the 47th District for about three and a half years. Tragically, he was performing security duties at the office building and was out of his department when the shooting happened. His wife is expecting their third child.

Commissioner Jessica Tish spoke emotionally about the loss, emphasizing the dangers officers face daily. NYPD officials honored Islam with a dignified procession as they transferred his body.

Blackstone Executive Remembered

Wesley Repatner, a 43-year-old executive from Blackstone, was also killed. Joining the company in 2014, she had an impressive career, and her colleagues described her as passionate and deeply respected. Repatner was a mother of two and actively involved in her community. Tributes poured in, emphasizing the significant void her passing leaves.

A Security Guard’s Sacrifice

Aland Etienne, another victim identified by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), was remembered as a dedicated security guard. His family mourned the loss, sharing heartfelt memories of him as a loving brother and father. The association recognized the relentless risks taken by security personnel, urging that their contributions often go unappreciated.

The NYPD reported that multiple emergency calls alerted them to an active shooter situation around 6:28 PM. Tamra was noted to have entered the building and immediately opened fire. Surveillance footage captured his actions, including moving through the lobby and targeting officers as he made his way to the 33rd floor.

Investigators acknowledged that Tamra had displayed mental health issues in the past. Mayor Adams indicated that preliminary findings suggest Tamra might have intended to target the NFL offices but mistakenly approached the wrong elevator bank. His recorded thoughts suggested a deep frustration related to his past experiences with football.
