Sanders Criticizes Netanyahu on Gaza Crisis
Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) has sharply criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for dismissing the food crisis affecting Gaza.
During an appearance on CNN’s “Source with Kaitlan Collins,” Sanders labeled Netanyahu a “nasty liar.” He expressed that while Israel has the right to defend itself from Hamas attacks, the ongoing conflict has escalated into a severe humanitarian issue for the Palestinian people.
On Saturday, the Israeli Defense Force (IDF) announced plans to resume air drops of aid to Gaza. This decision comes amid allegations, particularly from UN officials, that Israel has been obstructing aid to the area. The IDF countered these claims, labeling them a “false campaign by Hamas terrorist organizations.”
However, Sanders highlighted that many people are suffering due to the Israeli government’s actions. “They have effectively completely destroyed Gaza’s infrastructure, including schools, healthcare systems, and over 70% of housing, along with the entire water system. And, as you mentioned, they have hindered humanitarian assistance,” he told Collins.
He further underscored that malnutrition has become widespread, noting that children are facing starvation.
In light of the ongoing crisis, Sanders announced plans to propose a resolution condemning U.S. arms sales to Israel on Wednesday. “We cannot continue providing military aid to a government that is effectively starving children in Gaza,” he stated.
Additionally, Sanders criticized the American Israeli Public Relations Committee (AIPAC) for disseminating misleading narratives about the situation in Gaza. He pointed out that AIPAC spends substantial sums to protect the Netanyahu administration and threatens political repercussions against those who oppose their stance.
Sanders concluded by urging fellow senators to pay attention to their constituents, emphasizing that many Americans are opposed to funding what he described as a “horrifying war.”
