Cincinnati official sparks harsh responses with her remarks about victims of mob attack

Cincinnati Council Member Faces Backlash Over Comments on Mob Attack Victims

Comments made by a Cincinnati City Council member regarding victims of recent mob attacks have led to significant public outrage. Victoria Parks, serving as the City Council Presidential Pro Tem, stated, “They begged for that beatdown!” in response to a video showcasing the violent incidents.

This remark, which surfaced early Sunday morning on a Facebook post, has drawn widespread condemnation online. One commenter described her statement as “a disgusting comment!” and called for her removal from public office, asserting that no one deserves such brutal treatment.

The reactions to Parks’ words were intense, with many questioning her suitability for office:

  • “City council members condoning violence in their city don’t look good,” a responder remarked.
  • Another said, “As someone who generally supports your position, this comment is disgraceful. You should resign.”
  • One person simply replied, “Clown,” while others labeled her as “racist.”

Frustrated individuals flooded Parks’ own Facebook page to express their anger:

  • “The obvious beatdown is waiting for you,” warned one commenter.
  • “What a sleazy person!!” another added.
  • “If her comments reflect a broader pattern of bias, it could influence her decisions as a civil servant,” suggested another user. “That could have serious legal implications for Cincinnati.”
  • “Try making those statements in another state and see what happens,” one pointed out.
  • Another commenter observed, “God exposes people left and right, showing the world exactly who you are.”
  • “A disgusting comment! No one deserves that type of attack! You should be removed from public office!” another implored.
  • One person questioned, “Why would a council member make such statements about thugs attacking others?”

On Wednesday, inquiries were sent to Parks regarding her remarks, but as of Thursday afternoon, she had yet to respond. The Cincinnati Enquirer reported similar circumstances, noting that Parks did not answer several attempts for comment, and her office appeared inaccessible when reporters visited.

Despite the uproar, WLWT-TV reported that Parks confirmed her support for her controversial comments. Meanwhile, fellow council member Meeka Owens criticized Parks’ viewpoint, stating that it is never acceptable to condone violence. Owens emphasized that advocating violence is not effective or responsible.

Notably, Parks has previously announced she will not seek reelection.

A video of the attack, which occurred early Saturday morning, shows a man being assaulted by multiple attackers. The footage depicts various angles of the incident, including a woman attempting to intervene but also falling victim to the violence. Discussion about the incident has ensued, with varying perspectives on the motivations behind the attack and the actions of those involved.

As for the legal aftermath, police have arrested three out of five suspects linked to the attack. The arrested individuals face serious charges, with court records indicating prior criminal activities for some involved.

Authorities, including Cincinnati’s Police Chief, have stated that this mob attack is under investigation, and more arrests could be forthcoming. The FBI has also begun looking into the possibility of hate crime implications.
