Ohio’s Tax-Free Holiday Offers Extended Savings

Ohio’s tax-free holiday is currently active, allowing families a chance to save money while shopping for back-to-school items over an extended period.

This year’s sales tax holiday will take place from 12:00 AM on August 1st until 11:59 PM on August 14th.

The event includes nearly all tangible personal goods priced under $500, which covers food, plants, and sports equipment. Plus, there’s no cap on the total amount one can spend. Each item is evaluated for eligibility separately.

Walmart employees have noticed a range of questions from shoppers regarding their tax-free status and potential savings. Interestingly, online orders can also qualify if the payment is made during the holiday.

Jayna Hill from Walmart pointed out certain items that might not be top of mind for shoppers. “Diapers are a major category that often gets overlooked. And also, I have some electronic items displayed here, like an HP model that costs $229.” She emphasized that almost anything priced under $500 qualifies for tax exemption.

It’s worth mentioning that some items are excluded from these tax holidays, such as alcohol, cigarettes, cars, and vessels. But broadly, from laptops to laundry detergents, most products fall under the tax-free category.
