Senate Continues Meeting to Approve Trump Nominees

Senate Majority Leader John Thune is reportedly making a significant effort to confirm President Donald Trump’s nominees.

On Friday, Thune announced that he plans to keep the Senate in session over the weekend to facilitate this process.

According to reports, Trump has urged the Senate to continue functioning instead of adhering to their usual August recess. He emphasized that his nominees shouldn’t have to wait too long for confirmation.

Thune expressed his intention to keep the Senate engaged, focusing on confirmations while also negotiating with Democrats to expedite the review of numerous candidates. He mentioned that some discussions would occur between the White House and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.

In a video shared on Saturday, Thune mentioned his hope to offer better updates regarding the nominations.

Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) appeared on Breitbart News Daily recently and remarked that Democrats seem committed to maintaining their “closureist brands,” in reference to the backlog of approximately 130 judicial confirmations. Blackburn noted that while all Cabinet Secretaries have been confirmed, positions such as representatives and deputy assistants still require Senate approval.

She stated, “We need to confirm these officials, including US attorneys, as we have several on hold.” She emphasized that Trump deserves to fulfill his role as elected by the American people, and fulfilling this obligation is essential.

Blackburn encouraged Democrats to participate in the voting process, suggesting that they might ultimately collaborate. However, she also noted that some Democrats seem more focused on protecting their political image than on addressing the confirmations needed.

In a previous statement, Thune expressed satisfaction with the current momentum of the GOP majority, highlighting a change from the previous four years under Schumer. He stated, “The goal is to confirm the president’s team as swiftly as we can. We previously had the fastest Cabinet confirmations in over 20 years and managed to keep the Senate in session for over 10 consecutive weeks for the first time in 15 years.”
