Fan Arrested for Throwing Toy on Court During WNBA Game
A fan’s antics at a recent WNBA game led to an arrest after a neon green dildo was thrown onto the court. This incident occurred during a matchup between the Atlanta Dream and the Golden State Valkyries on July 29.
The WNBA reported that this was not an isolated occurrence, as other fans also threw items onto the court. In a statement, the league emphasized the importance of safety in the arena, declaring, “Any kind of objects on the court and seating area can pose a safety risk to players, game officials, and fans.” They warned that fans who deliberately throw objects could face a one-year ban in addition to potential legal repercussions.
During the second half of the game at the Gateway Center Arena, play was stopped so officials could remove the thrown toy from the court. Shortly thereafter, another adult toy was launched by a fan during a game between the Valkyries and the Chicago Sky last Friday, seemingly mimicking the first incident.
Player Elizabeth Williams, after the event, remarked, “It’s really immature. Anyone who does it needs to grow up.” Other players voiced their frustrations online, including Sophie Cunningham from the Indiana Fever and Isabel Harrison of the New York Liberty. Cunningham, in a social media post, urged fans to refrain from throwing such items, noting that it could hurt someone.
Adding to the chorus, Harrison echoed the sentiment, calling for better arena security and highlighting the dangerous nature of these actions. “It wasn’t funny. It’s very dangerous to throw something on the court,” she stated.
