Dog Leads to Rescue of Couple Overdosing

A dog may have played a vital role in saving the lives of a couple who suffered an overdose at a local campsite. This incident unfolded when Gary Singh was at a dog park in Pittsburgh’s North Shore last week, exercising her dog.

Another dog came up to Singh, behaving oddly. “He was just out of reach, coming closer and then backing away,” Singh recalled. “It felt like he wanted me to follow him.” Intrigued, Singh chased the dog, while a friend watched her own pet.

Eventually, the dog led Singh to a wooded area near some railway tracks. Singh, who is a recovering heroin addict, quickly grasped the seriousness of the situation once they reached a tent. “I first saw a gentleman inside and tried to wake him, but he didn’t respond,” she said, unsure whether he was breathing. Then Singh noticed a woman whose legs were visible outside the tent and tried to shake her awake, but to no avail.

Realizing they needed help, Singh called 911. Emergency services arrived shortly, taking the couple to a nearby hospital.

The Pittsburgh Public Safety Bureau expressed gratitude to those who assisted in the emergency. “We’re appreciative of our public safety partners and the good Samaritans in the area,” they remarked.

As of Saturday, the heroic dog was still in the vicinity while the couple remained hospitalized. Unfortunately, there were no updates on their conditions. Singh noted on social media that animal control had offered to take the dog home, but she was concerned it might end up in a shelter where it could be difficult to retrieve.

She provided the social worker’s contact details to the pet’s owner and emphasized the bond between pets and their humans. “I understand how deep that love runs,” Singh wrote, highlighting her commitment to caring for the dog until it could be reunited with its family.
