President Trump expressed admiration for Sidney Sweeney this past Sunday, upon finding out she is a registered Republican. This news arrives amid ongoing criticisms directed at actresses involved in American Eagle Jeans advertisements.
Trump, at 79 years old, shared his excitement with reporters when informed that the 27-year-old “Euphoria” star aligns with his conservative views. He also described her recent denim campaign as “Fantastic.”
“I love her ads now,” he remarked before stepping onto Air Force One in Allentown, Pennsylvania. “You’ll be surprised by how many Republicans are out there. I didn’t realize this, but I’m glad you let me know.” He concluded with, “If Sidney Sweeney is a registered Republican, I think her ads are great.”
Records indicate that the “White Lotus” actress has been a registered member of the Florida Republican Party in Monroe County since June 2024. Her political inclinations became public knowledge over the weekend when she faced intense backlash from critics who claimed her ad campaign resembled “Nazi propaganda,” accusing it of promoting racism and eugenics.
The promotional campaign includes a catchy tagline: “Sidney Sweeney has some amazing jeans.” In one clip, Sweeney discusses the concept of genes being inherited from parents, while another ad features her creatively altering a sign from “great genes” to “great jeans.”
This marketing initiative ignited a whirlwind of conversations online about societal beauty norms and race, prompting calls for American Eagle to be more considerate in its marketing approaches.
Other officials in the White House have laughed off the backlash, including Stephen Chong, Trump’s communications director, who described the situation as “Cancel Culture Run Amok.” Vice President JD Vance also weighed in, criticizing Democrats for their reactions to attractive models marketing jeans to children.
“My political advice to the Democrats,” Vance noted on a podcast, “is to stop suggesting that people who find Sidney Sweeney appealing are akin to Nazis. Their response reveals more about them than it does about us.” Sweeney has yet to publicly address the reactions to her advertisements.
