Deion Sanders’ Health and Shedeur’s Focus on Football
Shedeur Sanders recently had the opportunity to discuss his father’s health when he spoke to reporters at Browns Camp. His father, Deion Sanders, a notable figure in the NFL and the head coach at Colorado Buffaloes, revealed earlier this year that he has been diagnosed with cancer.
Shedeur didn’t elaborate much on his father’s medical struggles. Instead, he emphasized the importance of maintaining focus on his own work while Deion navigates this challenging period. “I think it’s definitely mentally focused,” he noted. “Dad, he’s someone who handles things, and so do we. We didn’t really need a formal talk about it. [Deion] said, ‘You all need to keep your focus. You can’t feel sorry for me.”
Last week, Deion announced at a press conference that he had a bladder removal surgery as part of his cancer treatment. The Pro Football Hall of Fame stated he was “healed” following the procedure, which included an alternative method to reconstruct a new bladder.
While Deion was visiting his other son, Shilo, during his first training camp with the Buccaneers, Shedeur asked his father not to come to Browns Camp just yet. “I don’t want him coming to see me now,” Shedeur explained. “I know he’s proud, but I want him to focus on his recovery.”
Shedeur, who was chosen in the fifth round of the spring draft, is working hard to secure a starting position against veterans like Joe Flacco, rookie Dillon Gabriel, and Kenny Pickett. Currently, he remains the only quarterback on the team without a repped play yet. “I have to earn it,” he reflected. “It’s all part of the journey.”
