Noem Warns of Potential Consequences if Mamdani Wins Mayoral Race
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem expressed her concerns on Wednesday, stating that if socialist Zoran Mamdani becomes mayor, New York City could face serious issues, calling it “a train wreck.”
Noem highlighted Mamdani’s far-left views, particularly his opposition to ICE and support for sanctuary policies, which she believes could endanger immigrant staff who assist in law enforcement efforts.
“We’ve done significant work here. As ICE and federal agents, we’re taking dangerous individuals off the streets of New York City. Thanks to President Trump’s leadership, we’ve already removed hundreds,” she remarked during an interview.
She continued, emphasizing the importance of support for law enforcement: “We need a mayor who backs us as we pursue these individuals.” If Mamdani were to take office, she warned that it would risk the safety of families seeking help.
Mamdani delivered a fiery speech at Queens’ New York Cathedral recently, criticizing the current administration and labeling the situation in the U.S. as facing a “dark moment.” He alleged that the government’s actions, which include sending masked agents, are not just punitive but amount to cruelty.
Noem seemed taken aback by how New Yorkers might be responding to Mamdani’s messages. “I find it hard to believe that residents in NYC don’t see the implications. If he becomes mayor, they’ll have to deal with the same dangerous criminals currently intimidating the city,” she stated.
Meanwhile, Mamdani has vowed to protect immigrant rights and prevent the federal government from limiting immigration enforcement if he’s elected. In response, Trump has suggested that Mamdani could face arrest should he obstruct ICE operations.
Noem characterized Trump’s comments as an attack on democracy while also underscoring the resolve of New Yorkers who refuse to be pushed into the background, declaring, “We will not accept this threat.”
