The National Bank of Canada, which ranks as the sixth largest commercial bank in the country, is currently facing significant service disruptions impacting its online banking and mobile applications.
Reports on social media indicate that the problems originated early this morning, with users encountering a “maintenance” message when attempting to log into their accounts through both online banking and the mobile app.
Based in Montreal, the bank serves over 2.4 million private banking clients and has a workforce exceeding 30,000 across Canada.
National Bank customers experiencing widespread suspension
This morning, users trying to access the National Bank’s online banking site were met with a placeholder page indicating “In progress.”
The mobile app is also currently unavailable, as confirmed by tests conducted by BleepingComputer.
At this moment, the cause of the outage remains unclear, and it’s uncertain when the services will be restored.
The lack of access to digital banking is understandably concerning for many customers.

As of 10:15 am ET on August 6, there appears to be some gradual return of online banking services, allowing limited functionality for users to log in.
“Due to technical issues, our transaction services are temporarily unavailable, but you can still view your account information and past transactions,” the bank stated.
However, BleepingComputer is currently unable to access information regarding recent transactions, and the mobile app remains offline.
