Trump Predicts the Cancellation of Fallon and Kimmel
During a press conference on Wednesday, former President Donald Trump expressed that late-night hosts Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel might be next in line for cancellation, following CBS’s decision to cancel “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” This remark came after a reporter, Brian Glenn, asked about the potential future of radio host Howard Stern on Sirius XM, referencing the “Trump Trump” entertainment model and its waning popularity among Americans.
Trump referenced Colbert’s show cancellation, suggesting that Fallon and Kimmel could be following suit. He stated, “Well, that’s not going well… Colbert has no talent, which means I could take anyone here and choose someone who would do the same or even more.” He did not hold back, declaring that both Fallon and Kimmel also lack talent, saying, “They’re next. They’re going.”
This isn’t the first time Trump has made such claims; he previously mentioned that Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon would be at risk of cancellation after Colbert’s show ended in May. “The word is that it’s a strong word. Jimmy Kimmel is next to me to go to the evil late-night sweepstakes. Shortly afterwards, Fallon will go away,” he wrote in a social media post.
Continuing his critique, Trump remarked, “These are absolutely untalented people. They were paid millions of dollars to destroy what was once great TV.” While some commentators suggested that Colbert’s cancellation was politically motivated, Paramount, CBS’s parent company, clarified that it was a purely financial decision.
Trump also touched on Howard Stern, recalling a past appearance where he felt there was a connection. He expressed disappointment over Stern’s decline in audience after his 2016 support for Hillary Clinton, stating, “He lost the audience. People said they would give me a break.” It seems his views on these late-night hosts—and the broader entertainment landscape—are quite firm and, perhaps, slightly nostalgic.
