Netanyahu announces that Israel will fully govern the Gaza Strip

Netanyahu’s Plans for Gaza Control

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has laid out his intention for Israel to reassert authority over the Gaza Strip, highlighting significant policy shifts nearly two decades after the withdrawal from the area.

In a recent interview, Netanyahu explained that this move is primarily aimed at dismantling Hamas and eventually transferring governance to Arab leadership. “We want to free ourselves and free the people of Gaza from the terrible fears of Hamas,” he stated.

He continued, asserting that through this, they could achieve safety for Israel while also allowing the Gazan population to transition to a civilian government. However, it seems like Israeli authorities might be preparing to condone a potential reoccupation of Gaza, as noted by local media reports.

Netanyahu clarified that Israel doesn’t intend a long-term military presence there, stressing the need for persistent security and the removal of Hamas. “The only way to secure a different future is to eliminate this neo-Nazi army. Hamas is a monster,” he remarked.

As the aftermath of the October 7th terrorist attack unfolds, about 50 hostages remain unaccounted for and reportedly stuck in Gaza.

Negotiations regarding a potential ceasefire with Hamas have seen little progress lately, despite earlier optimism expressed by the U.S. Special Mission to the Middle East. Israeli security officials are scheduled to convene soon to assess the ongoing conflict and the escalating humanitarian crisis affecting Gaza. The United Nations and other humanitarian organizations have raised alarms about increasing hunger and restricted access to basic needs.

In another development, a U.S. media visit to a Food Distribution Center operated by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation revealed numerous logistical challenges. Yet, thousands received food assistance on-site. A spokesperson for the foundation remarked on the dire situation, describing those involved as “hopeless people fighting for their lives in war zones.”

Discussions regarding the response to the Gaza situation, including potential future meetings between Netanyahu and U.S. officials, are ongoing. The UN Human Rights Council has called for an immediate dismantling of organizations like the GHF, accusing some of war crimes, which the organization has denied.

Netanyahu defended the current aid distribution system, attributing much of the humanitarian crisis to Hamas’s control and the misappropriation of resources meant for aid. “They want people to become civilian casualties. They want the hunger crisis they themselves are creating,” he claimed, affirming that the effort is focused on reversing this trend.
