Border Patrol Agents Catch Illegal Workers Using a Penske Truck in California Home Depot Operation

In a surprising turn of events, a group of Border Patrol agents emerged from a Penske rental truck during a raid on Wednesday morning, resulting in the arrest of at least 16 undocumented immigrants. This incident occurred at a Home Depot store in Los Angeles, close to MacArthur Park.

Gregory K. Bovino, Chief of El Centro Border Patrol and head of the California Deportation Executive Committee, shared details about the operation on X (formerly Twitter). His post highlighted the actions originally reported by Matt Finn from Fox News Channel.

A spokesperson for Border Patrol informed Breitbart Texas that all 16 individuals arrested were apprehended after a pursuit from the parking lot. They included nationals from Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. The spokesperson mentioned that agents are currently working to determine the criminal backgrounds of those detained.

Penske Corporation quickly clarified its position following the incident, stating on X, “Penske Truck Rental is aware of the recent reports and footage regarding DHS operations in Los Angeles. We strictly prohibit the transportation of individuals in the cargo area of our vehicles.”

The operation occurred at the Home Depot on Wilshire Boulevard, just blocks away from downtown MacArthur Park. The immigration enforcement actions undertaken by DHS in this area have been contentious, particularly between the Trump administration and the city of Los Angeles. Earlier in July, Mayor Karen Bass had protested against a significant operation aimed at disrupting illegal activities by foreign gangs in the park.

Bass’s efforts to halt the enforcement measures faced challenges, which included collaborations with ICE, Border Patrol, and U.S. Marines providing security to the agents. During a speech in the park, she expressed her frustration with the military presence, stating, “It’s outrageous that U.S. Marines, trained for combat overseas, are deployed in American cities alongside everyday Americans.”

While Bass highlighted her concerns, she didn’t mention the history of violence in the park, which has a reputation for being a stronghold for the Salvadoran MS-13 gang. Reports from as far back as 2020 indicate that foreign gangs were active in the park and engaged in numerous violent incidents.

During the July operation at MacArthur Park, Gregory K. Bovino spoke with Breitbart Texas about the goals of the operation, which aimed to disrupt illegal gang activities, including the creation and distribution of false documentation.

He pointed out that this issue involved not just members of Mexican and Central American gangs but also operatives within the park specializing in providing fraudulent identity and immigration documents to individuals of special interest. Bovino stressed the broader implications, saying, “We were also targeting individuals of special interest. If they obtain false documents, it can facilitate their movement, which is both dangerous and unacceptable.”
