Trump to hold discussions with Putin in Alaska about exchanging land between Russia and Ukraine

Trump to Meet Putin in Alaska to Discuss Peace Talks

On Friday, President Trump announced he plans to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska next week to discuss the potential for peace talks between Russia and Ukraine, particularly regarding territorial exchanges.

“I think we’re very close. We’ll be making an announcement soon about the location, which I believe will be well-received for several reasons,” Trump stated during a briefing at the White House. He later confirmed on True Social that the meeting is set for August 15th.

“The highly anticipated meeting between me as President of the United States and President of Russia Vladimir Putin will occur on Friday, August 15th, 2025, in the Great State of Alaska,” he wrote.

During the White House event where he was hosting leaders from Armenia and Azerbaijan, Trump provided more details on the proposed peace negotiations with Russia.

He mentioned that the discussions around a potential Russian-Ukraine peace deal are evolving, particularly after reports indicated Russia had suggested ceasefire proposals that might involve Ukraine yielding some territory.

“We’re talking about land that’s been contested for three and a half years—many lives have been lost on both sides,” Trump remarked. He further acknowledged that the situation is intricate yet potentially solvable. “It’s all about territory exchanges for mutual benefits, but we’ll discuss this further in the future,” he added.

When asked if he might host both Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky soon, Trump seemed optimistic, indicating that “we’re moving towards a resolution.” He noted, “European leaders, Putin, and Zelensky all want peace.”

Trump indicated that Zelensky needs to finalize preparations for potentially signing a ceasefire agreement. “He has to get everything lined up, and I’m sure he’s working diligently toward that,” the president mentioned.

The last time Putin visited the U.S. was in 2015 during President Obama’s tenure, where discussions included Ukraine and Syria. Trump met Putin six times during his first term, with their notable 2018 conference in Finland covering issues from election interference to nuclear arms.

Trump is currently considering whether to arrange meetings with both Putin and Zelensky in the coming weeks, a topic he raised during discussions with European allies. White House Press Secretary Caroline Lewitt confirmed that Russia has shown interest in engaging with Trump.
