Texas Attorney General Paxton Halts O’Rourke’s Alleged Financial Scheme
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced that a court has issued a temporary order to stop what he termed a “deceitful financial impact scheme” associated with former lawmaker Beto O’Rourke.
Democrats reportedly hindered voting on rezoning by obstructing quorum calls, which allowed Republicans to push the measure. O’Rourke had been financially supporting these activities through his organization until the court intervened temporarily.
“Today, I’ve put a stop to his deceptive financial impact scheme,” Paxton stated. He continued, saying, “The acquisition of what I call the ‘Beto Bribe,’ aimed at funding the Runaway Democrats, has officially been suspended.” It seems Paxton is concerned about what he perceives as O’Rourke’s attempts to buy Texas.
The court granted Paxton’s request for a temporary restraining order against O’Rourke and his organization, prohibiting any further spending or fundraising while the legal proceedings are ongoing. Paxton alleges that O’Rourke violated the Texas Campaign Financing Act by misleading contributors about the funds being directed to Democrats.
According to Paxton, O’Rourke and his group, Powered by People, directed unfamiliar donors to political funding platforms in a manner that contravenes Texas laws against deceptive practices.
In response to these allegations, O’Rourke scrutinized Paxton’s past controversies. He remarked, “The man criticized for bribery is now going after those attempting to prevent the theft of five Capitols.” O’Rourke advocates taking action against what he refers to as “thugs” aiming to undermine the country.
It’s worth noting that Paxton himself was previously under federal investigation over accusations of bribery and abuse of power but has not faced any charges. Currently, he is campaigning for the Republican nomination against incumbent Senator John Cornyn in Texas.
