A tragic discovery was made during a search for a missing teenager in North Carolina. Giovanni Peretier, just 18 years old, sent a heart-wrenching message to his mother, pleading for her help.
His remains were found on Friday at a holding pond off I-75 in Florida, where he had traveled to reconnect with his estranged father and family. The identification was confirmed by the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) the following afternoon.
His mother, Bridget Peretier, expressed her grief on Facebook, describing her situation as a nightmare no parent should endure. She revealed her frustration over how his body was discovered in a swampy area.
“My son was finally located after a desperate search that his family had to undertake alone, but we are now engaged in a relentless investigation into what happened to him,” she shared.
Giovanni was last seen on August 1, after he disappeared during a road trip with his cousin. Bridget called this the worst nightmare for any parent, struggling to find the strength to bid him farewell.
The investigation had focused on wetland regions near a southbound exit where he vanished, but his body was located by a private investigator hired by his family.
According to the MCSO, preliminary findings suggest that the remains belong to Peretier, though further testing is still needed.
An autopsy is set for Sunday, as reported by Gulf Coast News Now. Giovanni had been picked up by three cousins around 1:30 AM on August 1, embarking on a trip that included visits to both his mother and his father’s family in Brevard County.
Reports suggest that during the trip, his cousins noticed his behavior became erratic before they pulled over. At this point, Giovanni sent two urgent texts to his mother, begging for help, and attempted to contact other family members.
Alongside the road, authorities found his backpack and phone on August 1.
