Trump aims to take back DC as crime escalates

White House Responds to Crime Surge in Washington, D.C.

The White House has taken steps to tackle the rising crime issues in Washington, D.C., following persistent alerts from President Trump regarding potential federal action.

In early July, Trump expressed his frustration with the crime statistics, claiming he could “run DC” better.

He stated, “There’s no ‘Mr. Nice Guy’ here. We want honesty, and we’re thinking about implementing measures to ensure our capital operates smoothly. It really isn’t rocket science.”

Recently, Trump reiterated these statements after a brutal incident involving a former engineer, known as “big ball,” who was assaulted while trying to defend women from carjackers near DuPont Circle.

In a post on social media, Trump described the situation: “Crimes in Washington, DC are completely out of control. Local youths—gang members really—just 14, 15, and 16 years old, are attacking, shooting, and robbing innocent people.”

This incident seems to have been a tipping point for the president, prompting him to direct additional federal agents into D.C. as part of a new, intensive week-long crime reduction initiative.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt remarked, “This marks the first crucial step in stopping the wave of violent crimes hitting Washington, D.C.”

A White House representative informed that federal authorities will concentrate on areas most affected by crime, deploying “highly visible and marked units.”

Reportedly, agents from various federal agencies, including the Secret Service, Department of Homeland Security, and others, have been assigned to assist in the deterrent efforts.

U.S. Parks Police announced on social media that federal partners had made arrests for possessing stolen firearms and illegal drugs, removing these threats from the streets.

Trump plans to unveil more details about his crime-fighting strategy on Monday, emphasizing his goal to make D.C. “one of the safest cities” from its current dangerous status.

He added, “This city has become one of the most hazardous in the world, but rest assured, we’re making changes quickly!”

Despite claims of increased crime, the Metropolitan Police Department reported a significant drop in crime rates over the past year. However, controversy has surrounded the agency, as one commander faced scrutiny for allegedly manipulating crime data.

As of Sunday, data indicated a 26% reduction in violent crime compared to the previous year.
